Abstract

This article contributes to the debate on justice between coexisting generations from a relational and intersectional perspective, investigating how age intersects with other social categories in shaping dynamics of inequality and discrimination. Therefore, the article presents the concept of ageism and considers intersectionality essential to grasp how the social construction of age is shaped by patriarchal assumptions, exposing women more to ageism. However, the article considers possible limits of an intersectional perspective to justice between age groups, highlighting the difficulties in considering ‘young’ and ‘old’ as social groups and emphasising the predominance of gender, compared to age, in gendered ageism.
