Abstract
Two years after the death of Giovanni Mannino, researcher and talented speleologist, we present here unpublished research results of the group of researchers he led. This contribution adds additional information to that previously published in 2022 by Mannino et al. The results presented here deal with the speleological register in an area of the eastern coast of the peninsula of San Vito lo Capo (Trapani), which is very rich in prehistoric and palaeoanthropological
findings. The results are formulated within a multidisciplinary approach to this area and are correlated with topographical information and maps. In many cases, the surveyed cave sites, although they are a clear testimony of human occupation in the Palaeo- Mesolithic period, have not yet received the attention they deserve. This lack of attention may be partly due to the paucity of knowledge of such a complex territory. In other cases, such as the Grotta dell'Uzzo, perhaps the most representative Mesolithic site in the Italian panorama, intensely studied since the 1970s, we have limited ourselves to the original treatment by Mannino.
