About the Journal

Fashion Highlight is an academic journal dedicated to research in the field of fashion design, with a perspective that investigates both the conception, design, production and communication of the fashion product, and its cultural, aesthetic and technological implications. Fashion is a constantly evolving sector, capable of reflecting and influencing the transformations of society through design, innovation and experimentation.

The journal welcomes studies that explore fashion design in its many forms: from the design and production of fabrics, garments and accessories, to the analysis of applied materials and technologies, to connections with related disciplines that enrich the sector, such as communication, economics and social sciences. Although rooted in the field of fashion design, Fashion Highlight recognises the value of transdisciplinary intersections, welcoming contributions that broaden the understanding of fashion as a cultural, economic and technological phenomenon.

The aim of the journal is to offer a space for discussion for researchers and professionals, also thanks to its open access mode, investigating emerging trends, design innovations and transformations of the fashion system in local and global contexts.

Fashion Highlight thus proposes itself as a point of reference for the scientific debate on fashion design, combining academic rigour and openness towards the transitions of the present and the future.

Fashion Highlight is an Open Access Journal.

Authors retain the copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC-BY-4.0) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgment of the work's authorship and initial publication.and CC0  1.0  Universal for metadata.

PEER-REVIEW PROCESS

Each submission to Fashion Highlight is subject to a rigorous quality control. 

Submissions that are out of scope may be rejected without external peer review. If the manuscript is considered suitable for publication, it is sent to two or more anonymous reviewers.

The peer review process is double-blind. Referees are asked to evaluate the manuscript within 4 weeks. If the reviews are positive, but the manuscript requires to be revised and resubmitted, the author is expected to submit the revised version in 2 weeks.

Special Issues follow the same workflow (double-blind peer review process) as regular issues.

Publication decisions by the Editors are final. The reviewer reports are not published.

Fashion Highlight performs a plagiarism check using Crossref Similarity Check (iThenticate), to ensure the originality of submitted manuscripts.

 

ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES (APC)

Fashion Highlight does not ask for articles and submissions processing charges APC.

 

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY

Fashion Highlight publishes 2 regular issues per year. 

In addition, Special Issues will be published as conference proceedings and in-depth analyses on specific topics.

 

WAIVER INFORMATION

Fee waivers do not apply at Firenze University Press.

Authors who publish with Fashion Highlight agree to the following terms:

PUBLICATION ETHICS

Responsibilities of Fashion Highlight's editors, reviewers, and authors concerning publication ethics and publication malpractice are described in FUP’s Guidelines on Publication Ethics.

 

USE OF GENERATIVE AI

Authors must clearly disclose any use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of the manuscript, indicating the specific sections where such tools were employed. The use of AI does not relieve authors of their full responsibility for the accuracy of the content and for the proper citation of all sources. Generative AI tools must not be used to create, alter, or manipulate original research data or results.

 

ORIGINALITY

All submissions must be fully original. This means that any use of the work or words of others must be clearly cited or quoted, with permissions obtained where necessary. Proper acknowledgment of all sources is required. By submitting, authors confirm that the manuscript has not been previously published—except as a preprint, abstract, academic thesis, lecture, or registered report—is not under consideration elsewhere, and will not be published in the same form in any language without prior consent from the copyright holder. Manuscripts found to violate these conditions may be desk rejected, and the editors of Fashion Highlight reserve the right to take further action in cases of ethical misconduct.

 

CORRECTIONS and RETRACTIONS

In accordance with the generally accepted standards of scholarly publishing, Fashion Highlight does not alter articles after publication: "Articles that have been published should remain extant, exact and unaltered to the maximum extent possible".
In cases of serious errors or (suspected) misconduct Fashion Highlight publishes corrections and retractions (expressions of concern).

Corrections
In cases of serious errors that affect or significantly impair the reader’s understanding or evaluation of the article, Fashion Highlight publishes a correction note that is linked to the published article. The published article will be left unchanged.

Retractions 

In accordance with the "Retraction Guidelines" by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Fashion Highlight will retract a published article if: 

• there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation);
• the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication);
• it turns out to be an act of plagiarism;
• it reports unethical research.

An article is retracted by publishing a retraction notice that is linked to or replaces the retracted article. Fashion Highlight will make any effort to clearly identify a retracted article as such.
If an investigation is underway that might result in the retraction of an article Fashion Highlight may choose to alert readers by publishing an expression of concern.
