Abstract
The article examines a portrait of the Florentine school kept at the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna and previously attributed to Giovan Battista Vanni. It is the Portrait of Guido Antonio Arcimboldi, a member of a noble family from Milan, who left Milan at an unspecified date and settled in Florence, at the Medici court, where he became a page and later “capitano di corazze” in the service of Grand Duke Ferdinando II de’ Medici. For stylistic reasons, we propose the attribution of the portrait, using comparisons with certain works by the artist, to the Tuscan painter Felice Ficherelli (1603-1660), a pupil of Jacopo da Empoli but who, in his maturity, came closer to the art of Francesco Furini, whose considerable stylistic influence is evident in the Bolognese painting.
