Abstract
This article reconstructs the provenance history of the painting Donne a passeggio (1929) by Massimo Campigli, present in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo, Brazil (MAC USP), under the title Mulheres a Passeio. Prior to its arrival in the city of São Paulo in 1947, the artwork travelled through several countries, exhibitions, and owners, which well reflects Campigli’s fortune in Europe and in the United States and his relationship with the gallerists that played a crucial role in building his international success, such as the French Jeanne Bucher or the Venetian Carlo Cardazzo. The article ends with a brief review of the critical reception of the artist in Brazil.
