Abstract

This article analyzes the artistic experiences of Argentine visual artist Alejandro Teves and Cuban painter Victor Manuel Ojeda Collado in relation to the current environmental issue of the region. From Robert Smithson’s perspective, contemporary art can promote a critical message that fosters an interdisciplinary debate on the consequences of natural resource extraction and industrialization on the environment. In this way, the desert and the Andes Mountains become unique and original settings where the reflections shared by these artists converge. This research aims to identify the aesthetic correspondences between painting and Land Art, presenting them as creative, valid, and contemporary tools for rethinking ecological impact in the Anthropocene.
